Subornation of Perjury

Administration of Justice Offenses

The act of persuading, procuring or inducing another person to commit perjury, that is, to give knowingly false testimony under oath in a judicial or other legal proceeding. It is prosecuted as a distinct offense from perjury itself because it targets the person who corrupts a witness's testimony rather than, or in addition to, the witness who actually lies under oath, and in most jurisdictions requires proof that the person who suborned the perjury knew the testimony they procured was false and intended it to be given under oath.
