Forensic Disciplines and Methods

Named forensic disciplines and investigative methods used to establish facts about a crime from physical, biological, digital or documentary evidence: fields such as forensic pathology, ballistics, fingerprint analysis and digital forensics, along with the methods particular to each. A discipline belongs here when its subject is the technique or field of practice itself, not the case it was applied to or the organization that performs it. Landmark uses of a discipline in one specific investigation are catalogued under Landmark Cases, and the laboratories, agencies and professional bodies that practice a discipline are catalogued under Criminal Justice Institutions; a discipline page links to both rather than duplicating their content.
