Doping in Sport

Doping in sport covers the use or supply of performance-enhancing drugs by athletes. The National Institute on Drug Abuse calls anabolic-androgenic steroids the best-studied class of appearance and performance enhancing drugs, which are used to build muscle mass or to enhance athletic performance. Although they do not typically produce a euphoric high, people who use them may develop a substance use disorder, and anabolic steroids can cause severe, long-lasting and sometimes irreversible damage, including early heart attacks, strokes, liver tumors, kidney failure and psychiatric problems.
