Nils Bejerot (1921 to 1988) was a Swedish psychiatrist and criminologist best known for his research on drug abuse and for coining the phrase Stockholm syndrome. His work combined clinical psychiatric training with criminological study of addiction, positioning him as an influential voice in Swedish drug policy debates. Bejerot's coining of the term Stockholm syndrome remains one of the most widely recognized concepts to originate from criminological scholarship. His combined psychiatric and criminological perspective distinguished him within Swedish criminology of his era.
