Smuggling and Human Smuggling

Smuggling and human smuggling are offenses of moving goods or people across a border in secret. In the United States, 18 U.S. Code section 545 reaches whoever knowingly and willfully, intending to defraud the United States, smuggles or clandestinely introduces merchandise that should have been invoiced, or fraudulently imports merchandise contrary to law. For people, 8 U.S. Code section 1324 punishes anyone who knowingly brings an alien to the United States at a place other than a designated port of entry, or transports, conceals, harbors or shields from detection an alien who is in the country in violation of law.
