Trace Evidence

Investigation and Evidence Concepts

Trace evidence is physical evidence that results when objects come into contact and material is transferred between them. It is usually not visible to the naked eye, so investigators require specific tools and training to locate, recognize and recover it, and it is consequently often overlooked at a crime scene. Because it can take many different forms, trace evidence appears across a wide range of case types, and its value lies in its ability to link a victim to a suspect, or a victim or suspect to the scene of a crime.
