Alexander Gurov

Alexander Gurov is a Russian former police detective, criminologist and politician, born in 1945 in Tambov Oblast. As a Soviet Militsiya detective in the 1980s he became known for his research into Soviet organized crime, publishing and commenting publicly on the subject at a time when Soviet authorities officially denied organized crime existed in the country. He later entered politics, serving as a member of the State Duma from 2000 to 2011 for the Unity and United Russia factions, where he sat on the Committee for Security.
