Hou Yu-ih, born in 1957, is a Taiwanese criminologist and former police officer who rose through Taiwan's national police leadership before entering politics. He earned a bachelor's degree in criminology in 1980 and a doctorate in crime prevention in 2004, both from Central Police University, and went on to serve as Director-General of Taiwan's National Police Agency from 2006 to 2008 and as president of Central Police University from 2008 to 2010. Early in his police career he led the widely publicized 1997 rescue of the Alexander family during a hostage crisis, an operation that brought him national recognition, and he later served as mayor of New Taipei City from 2018 and as the Kuomintang's presidential nominee in 2024.
