Cases solved or shaped through writing, documents and digital traces, the BTK case, in which the offender sent taunting letters to police and media, and the Unabomber case, in which a published manifesto was central to the investigation. A case belongs here when writing or documentary evidence carried the investigation. The grouping is a browsing aid for visitors to the Crime and Justice Atlas and not a ranking, and a case may also be discussed under other headings in the atlas.
