Street crime is a broad term for criminal offenses committed in public places. London's Metropolitan Police describes it as covering robbery, often called mugging, along with thefts where a victim's property is snatched without an accompanying assault. As a general label, street crime can extend to pickpocketing, open illegal drug dealing, street-level prostitution solicited in violation of the law, graffiti and vandalism of public property, assaults, and even opportunistic theft from private property such as the stealing of hub caps from parked cars.
