Deadbeat parent is an American English term, generally used pejoratively, for a parent who fails to fulfill their parental responsibilities, particularly by evading court-ordered child support obligations or custody arrangements. Such parents are also referred to as absentee fathers or mothers, and the gender-specific terms deadbeat father and deadbeat mother describe a parent who has intentionally failed to pay child support ordered by a family law court or a statutory child support agency.
