Misconduct as a prisoner is an offense under Article 98 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice. It covers a person subject to military law who, while held by the enemy in time of war, acts without proper authority in a manner contrary to law, custom, or regulation for the purpose of securing favorable treatment from captors, to the detriment of other prisoners of any nationality, or who, while holding a position of authority over such prisoners, maltreats them without justifiable cause. A person convicted under the article is punished as a court-martial directs.
