Disrespect Toward a Superior Commissioned Officer

Disrespect toward a superior commissioned officer is an offense under Article 89 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice. It covers a person subject to military law who behaves with disrespect toward that person's superior commissioned officer. The same article separately punishes striking a superior commissioned officer, or drawing or lifting a weapon, or offering violence against one while the officer is executing the duties of office, which may be punished by death if committed in time of war. Punishment for the disrespect provision itself is as a court-martial directs.
