Bride Buying

Bride buying, or bride purchasing, is the cultural practice of providing payment, typically to the brides father, family or an intermediary agent, in exchange for a bride, making it the converse of a dowry. It is illegal in some countries while retaining a firm foothold in parts of Asia and Africa, and where the bride is treated as property transferred from one owner to another it can amount to a form of slavery.
