Counterfeiting and Product Fraud

Offenses involving the manufacture, imitation or fraudulent relabeling of a physical good, banknote or intellectual property right, rather than a purely financial or identity-based deception. This group gathers currency counterfeiting and the counterfeiting of trademarked consumer goods, a false claim of copyright over public-domain material, and food, wine and pharmaceutical fraud in which a product's true contents or origin is disguised, together with vehicle-specific fraud such as odometer tampering and the disguised repair of a wrecked vehicle known as a cut and shut. It excludes forging a document or an identity credential, which belongs under Identity and Document Fraud, even though forgery and counterfeiting are closely related acts of fraudulent imitation.
