Miscegenation

Miscegenation refers to genetic admixture, or marriage and sexual relations, between people considered members of different races or ethnicities, a phenomenon that was widespread across human populations historically but that has repeatedly been subject to legal prohibition in societies with strict racial or caste-based separation. Anti-miscegenation laws banning interracial marriage or relations were enforced for extended periods in a number of states and regimes, including the United States until 1967, Nazi Germany from 1935 to 1945, Fascist Italy from 1938 to 1945, and apartheid-era South Africa from 1949 to 1985; the United States Supreme Court struck down such laws as unconstitutional in its 1967 decision in Loving v.
