All Mind and Behavior in Legal Settings

Mind and behavior in legal settings covers disciplines about mental state and behavior in court and investigation. The Department of Justice lists forensic psychiatry among the forensic disciplines practiced outside forensic laboratories, beside forensic pathology, nursing, entomology and engineering. A polygraph test, popularly called a lie detector test, is a machine that measures a person's physiological responses, such as heart rate, blood pressure, respiration and skin conductivity, as they answer questions. It cannot actually test for honesty, because it relies on the operator's analysis of the responses, which can be inaccurate, so polygraph results are usually not admitted as evidence.
