Blue-Collar Crime

Blue-collar crime is a criminological category for offenses committed by individuals from a lower social class, contrasted with white-collar crime, which is associated with offenders of higher social standing. It carries no distinct legal classification of its own, but functions as a general grouping of offenses that tend to be small in scale and committed for immediate personal gain, including narcotics production or distribution, sexual assault, theft, burglary, assault and murder. Some blue-collar offenses are also driven by immediate reaction, such as violence arising from a fight or confrontation, rather than the more calculated planning often associated with white-collar offending.
