Crimes by Offender or Organization Type

Crimes by offender or organization type are typologies that sort crime by who commits it. White-collar crime generally means nonviolent crimes usually committed in commercial situations for financial gain, such as antitrust violations, bribery, embezzlement, insider trading, mail fraud and money laundering. Organized crime has no single definition under federal law, and federal agencies generally use the term for continuing criminal organizations, enterprises or associations whose members coordinate their activities over time, often for financial or other material gain, in forms that range from formal hierarchies to informal networks and cells that may use violence, threats, intimidation or corruption.
