Franz Exner (1881 to 1947) was an Austrian-German criminologist and criminal lawyer known for his work in criminal sociology and criminal biology. He authored Grundriss der Kriminalbiologie, published in 1939, and became associated with what came to be called the Kiel School of criminology. Exner's scholarship combined legal training with biological and sociological approaches to explaining criminal behavior, situating him within the broader positivist currents of continental European criminology. His work influenced German criminological thought through the middle of the twentieth century.
