Gordon Hawkins (criminologist)

Criminological Theorists and Social Scientists

Gordon Joseph Hawkins (1919 to 2004) was an Australian criminologist and senior lecturer at the University of Sydney. He argued that prison riots stemmed from poor management rather than insufficient punishment, work that helped shape prison reform in New South Wales, and co-authored nine books with Berkeley professor Franklin Zimring on deterrence, capital punishment, drug control, and incarceration policy.
