Joan Fish McCord was an American criminologist at Temple University known for her contributions to developmental criminology through long term longitudinal studies. She is particularly known for her analysis of the Cambridge Somerville Youth Study, which found that mentoring interventions intended to prevent delinquency could produce counterintuitive negative outcomes. McCord became the first female president of the American Society of Criminology in 1989 and received both the Herbert Bloch Award from the American Society of Criminology and the Emile Durkheim Prize from the International Society of Criminology.
