Linda M. Williams

Criminological Theorists and Social Scientists

Linda Meyer Williams is an American sociologist and criminologist who serves as a senior research scientist at the Wellesley Centers for Women, where she directs the Justice and Gender Based Violence Research Initiative, and is professor emerita of criminal justice and criminology at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. Her research focuses on child abuse, family violence, violence against women, and trauma and memory. Her widely cited 1994 study on the recall of childhood trauma found that a substantial share of women in a longitudinal sample did not recall sexual abuse that had been documented in hospital records decades earlier.
