Yang Jih-sung

Yang Jih-sung (1927 to 2011) was a Taiwanese forensic scientist who spent more than six decades examining physical evidence in criminal cases, reportedly handling more than 30,000 bodies over his career and earning frequent comparisons to Sherlock Holmes in the Taiwanese press. He solved his first case as a student in 1949, later assisted in solving Taiwan's first known dismemberment homicide in 1977, and investigated the 1993 death of naval officer Yin Ching-feng, an inquiry that helped expose the La Fayette-class frigate procurement scandal. His long tenure made him one of the most publicly recognized forensic authorities in Taiwan's criminal justice history.
