Forensic and Scientific Institutions

Institutions and programs whose function is applying forensic science or investigative technology to casework rather than exercising general police authority: national DNA and case-linkage databases, crime laboratories, and specialized behavioral-science and case-analysis units. Belongs here: any institution organized around a specific scientific, technical or analytical method applied across many cases, typically operating as a unit within or alongside a larger law enforcement agency. Does not belong here: general-purpose police forces, even ones that operate their own laboratories, grouped under the law enforcement subcategories above.
