National Prison and Probation Services

National prison and probation services are the agencies that run custody for a country. In the United States the Federal Bureau of Prisons protects public safety by ensuring that federal offenders serve their sentences in facilities that are safe, humane, cost-efficient and appropriately secure, and it provides reentry programming for a successful return to the community. It is responsible for the custody and care of more than 150,000 federal inmates and employs about 34,000 people. In England and Wales HM Prison and Probation Service is an executive agency sponsored by the Ministry of Justice that carries out the sentences given by the courts, in custody and in the community, and works to rehabilitate people through education and employment.
