Hong Kong Police Force

The Hong Kong Police Force, commonly abbreviated HKPF, is Hong Kong's primary law enforcement and investigative agency and its largest disciplined service, established on 1 May 1844 shortly after Hong Kong became a British colony, making it one of the oldest police forces in Asia to have operated continuously under a single institutional identity. It operates under Hong Kong's Security Bureau and, under the one country, two systems framework that governs Hong Kong's relationship with mainland China, functions independently of mainland Chinese police authorities within Hong Kong's own jurisdiction. The force comprises around 34,000 regular officers, auxiliary police and civilian staff, organized into departments covering operations and support, crime and security, personnel and training, management services, finance and administration, and national security, and it is commanded by a Commissioner of Police who reports to the Secretary for Security. Its jurisdiction covers the full territory of Hong Kong, combining the roles of ordinary municipal policing with specialized investigative and security functions in a single force.
