The police service responsible for policing Buenos Aires Province, Argentina, formed on December 24, 1821 and informally known as the Policia Bonaerense. Its Central Police, based in the provincial capital La Plata, sent Inspector Alvarez to assist the local police investigating the 1892 killing of Francisca Rojas's children; Alvarez, trained by Juan Vucetich, recovered the bloody fingerprint that identified Rojas as the killer, the first criminal identification made using fingerprint evidence.
