Israel Police

The Israel Police is Israel's civilian national police force, established in 1948 with the founding of the state and responsible for crime fighting, traffic control, public safety and counter terrorism, operating under the Ministry of National Security with headquarters at Kiryat HaMemshala in Jerusalem. It is organized into six regional district commands, Central, Southern, Northern, Judea and Samaria, Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, alongside specialized units including the Israel Border Police for combat style operations, the Yamam counter terrorism unit, the Yasam unit for riot control, and a National Traffic Police. As a national force covering the full range of ordinary and specialized policing, the Israel Police differs from many countries' arrangements, where local and national law enforcement responsibilities are divided between separate municipal and federal agencies, and it additionally maintains a large volunteer Civil Guard alongside its professional officers. An internal Police Internal Investigations Department provides oversight of the force's own conduct.
