Cruelty and maltreatment is an offense under Article 93 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice. It covers a person subject to military law who is guilty of cruelty toward, or oppression or maltreatment of, a person subject to that person's orders. It addresses abuse of authority by a superior over a subordinate within the military chain of command, and a person convicted under the article is punished as a court-martial directs.
