Fragging

Fragging is the deliberate killing or attempted killing of a soldier, usually a superior officer, by a fellow member of the same military. US military personnel coined the term during the Vietnam War, when such killings were often carried out or attempted with a fragmentation grenade specifically so the death would appear accidental or the result of enemy action; the term has since broadened to cover any deliberate killing of a military colleague. Documented cases span from the 1700s through the Vietnam War, when the practice reached epidemic levels, and later conflicts including World War II, Afghanistan, Iraq and the Russo-Ukrainian War. Fragging is prosecuted as murder or attempted murder under court-martial proceedings; in one Vietnam-era accounting, ten convicted fraggers received sentences ranging from ten months to thirty years.
