Intrusion on seclusion is one of four privacy torts recognized under United States common law, alongside public disclosure of private facts, false light, and appropriation of likeness. It is commonly regarded as the core claim underlying what is popularly called an invasion of privacy: seclusion is defined as the state of being private and away from other people, and the tort is committed when that private, secluded state is deliberately intruded upon.
