Maid Abuse

Maid abuse is the maltreatment or neglect of a person hired as a domestic worker, taking physical, sexual, emotional, and economic forms intended to instill fear, enforce discipline, or satisfy the abuser's own desires. It occurs worldwide but is most commonly documented among domestic workers in Singapore, where foreign workers are especially vulnerable because they typically live with their employers and lack certain employment protections; the majority of perpetrators tend to be female employers and their children. The United States Human Trafficking Hotline characterizes maid abuse as a form of human trafficking, describing it as the use of force, fraud, or coercion to maintain control over the worker.
