A man-in-the-middle attack, also called an on-path attack, is a cyberattack in which the attacker secretly relays and possibly alters communications between two parties who believe they are communicating directly with each other. The attacker inserts themselves between the two parties, for example through active eavesdropping, making independent connections with each victim and relaying messages so the entire exchange is controlled without either party realizing it.
