Immigration and Border Offenses

Offenses concerning the unauthorized crossing of a national border or unauthorized presence within a country territory, and the organized facilitation of either. The group covers illegal entry and illegal immigration by an individual, the paid facilitation of an unlawful border crossing known as human smuggling, the broader offense of smuggling goods or people across a border to evade customs or immigration controls, and stowing away aboard a vehicle to travel without authorization or payment. Belongs here: an offense defined by the unlawful crossing of, or presence across, a jurisdictional border. Does not belong here: human trafficking, a distinct offense against the person rather than against border control, held elsewhere in this atlas.
